The old welting was used to cut the length of new welting. The new welt was laid over the top cowl to mark the holes, and Al punched out the bolt holes. Ron cut 8-inch strips out of the old welt and attached them to the new welt. These strips were used to pull the welting into place when setting the tank. Ron also made cuts in the welting where it turned the corner. The only hard part was finding bolts and aligning them. One blot snapped off and still needed to be drilled out.
The windshield was propped up so that the gas tank could be set.
