Annual Bluebonnet Tour - April 10 -11, 1999 LSMAFC
Members Smell the Wildflowers
This year's Bluebonnets, Indian Paint Brushes, and
Indian Blankets were spectacular in many places during the Bluebonnet
Tour on April 10 and 11. In fact they were so thick along the road in
many places that the lucky riders in 15 Model A's were treated to the
wonderful fragrance of Mother Nature's wonderful perfume.
Our tour was an especially pleasant, relaxing one except
for a few problems. Unfortunately, one Model A Ford suffered a breakdown
before the tour even started. Not to be deterred, she hitched a ride in
a Model A while he drove his modern iron to join us at lunch for some
first class barbecue at Coopers in Llano. Other than a persistent loose
rear wheel, the Tour Leader backing into someone car, shimmy problems on
the Willow City Loop, a blowout, and a wrong turn, (hey! we lost contact
on the CB and did not hear the directions! - Rajordan) we proceeded on
at a stately, if unsteady pace arriving in Fredericksburg around
3:30. After checking in at the Sunday House, some folks hit the shops
while others visited Pat Lindemann's garage and were treated to beer,
soft drinks, and a babbitt line boring demonstration. (Several of
the female members of our club said that this babbitt line boring
demonstration was the highlight of the tour because they had
uninterrupted shopping in town.)
Our monthly meeting was held after an extended social
hour at a full service bar and dinner, which was served in a private
room at the Sunday House Restaurant. The meeting was very short as
several of the club officers and directors were anxious to resume their
interrupted social hour. The next morning we slept in to alleviate the
hang-over situations and hit the road again at 9:30 AM, traveling to the
Wildseed Farms about 10 miles East of Fredericksburg, with a short
detour through Cain City by way of the Old San Antonio Highway. At the
Wildseed Farms a very serious situation occurred. One of our Charter
Members deliberately, and with malice aforethought, disobeyed the
Wildseed Farms "DO NOT PICK" law and was shamefully caught in the act by
a photographer. (However, you will not see that photo here on this web
page - rajordan.)
After hurriedly leaving the Farms in disgrace (it's
really tough to leave hurriedly in a Model A), we traveled to Johnson
City for lunch at the Feedmill. From there we toured to Ed Glass's
Classic Car Shop in Horseshoe Bay, where we drooled over some beautiful
antique and classic cars. After wiping up, we traveled the back road to
Burnet, gassed up our cars, filled up our tummies at the local Dairy
Queen, and proceeded home. We're looking forward to another banner
Bluebonnet Tour in 2000.
