Elgin Tour
Saturday, May 18th

As Chronicled by Walter Payne The clouds and rain of the previous week departed just in time for a beautiful, if not a little warm, Saturday of driving through the countryside. For many of us the day started early at Pistons on the Square. The place was packed with cars and people. Every spot on the square and even some side streets had an amazing ride parked there. All seemed to be in a good, festive mood with cars being the common bond that generated so many smiles, handshakes, and hugs.

Ten o'clock was approaching and that meant time for the drivers meeting for the Elgin Tour. We met in the parking lot in front of the Georgetown library. The drive today would be about an hour and a half. Looking at the map of the drive, I determined it was an "ARMY" drive. After leaving Georgetown, every turn, including the turn into our destination was…Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right….like marching in the Army…

Anyway…apart from one small patch of rough road, the drive went smoothly and with no breakdowns. Jim Ferguson did a fantastic job as lead car keeping everyone together and on the selected route. Along the way, we passed hundreds of new Teslas parked near the train station. Someone said they thought they saw Elon leaning against one of the new trucks smoking a cigar..or something? A little further down the road we went through a massive solar farm. The fields on both sides of the road were filled with solar panels that seemingly disappeared over the hills into the horizon.

Shea Presents Al with his pricze
Before you knew it, we were having a fantastic lunch in Giddings at the Southside Meat market. Though there were not any stops for a poker run, we made it up as we went through lunch. Al Bohn won with three aces and thanks to the manager Shea Matoska, he had his choice of any hat in the swag display.

5/8" wrench bottle opener stamped with Elgin on the front and 2024 on the back.
As mementos, all Model A drivers received a 5/8" wrench bottle opener stamped Elgin 2024. I am not sure as to the quality of my stamping, but hey, that thing just might come in handy!

Thanks to all that made the tour and thanks again to Shea at the Southside Meat Market for the free swag. Catch you on the flip-side. ~Walter
