The hard part is done.

1918 Curtiss OX-5 90 HP V-8 Engine

Considered obsolete by 1914, this Glenn Curtiss designed and built engine was the first mass produced engine in America and powered the Curtiss "Jenny" JN-4 and "Canuck" trainers of the day. Built by the thousands and sold cheaply on the surplus market, it introduced America to aviation and carried the postwar barnstorming era through the 1920s.
The OX-5 design began life in 1910 and was refined throughout its production life. This engine is a water-cooled, 8 cylinder, 90 degree V-8 of "separate cylinder" design. With a bore of 4 inches and stroke of 5 inches, it displaces 503 cubic inches and produces 90 horsepower at a low 1400 RPM. The engine weighs about 390 lbs less coolant, oil, and radiator. The low rpm allowed the use of a large propeller which gave good efficiency for the day.
The valve gear is strange in that the exhaust valve is pushed open by a normal pushrod/rocker arm assembly, but the intake valve is pulled open by a rocker/pull-rod arrangement. This allows both valves to be actuated through one hole in the crankcase but needs constant care, lubrication and adjustment.

They now have an exhibit inside.
