The Leaders: Laurie and Ron

This picture in the newsletter was the clue to our first stop at the
Fields Stable Antiques. Unfortunately for some, the stable part was long gone.

Time for lunch at Smitty's Market.
You must watch where you walk because they have wood burning fire pits randomly on the floor. They have signs all around that say that they do not have forks. So everyone was very happy that I supplied them with forks. Laurie

Ron's '30 Cabriolet, Al's '30 Fordor, Jim's '31 Slant Window Fordor, Dennis's '31 Victoria,
Max's '28 Tudor, Felix's '29 5-window Coupe in front of the old county jail

The Caldwell County Jail was built in 1908 and used until 1983.

All the comforts of home
The Curator did an awesome job telling us the history of the jail.

Folk Art in a Bottle
The art and craft of building folk art and whimsy in a bottle. This bottle with a chair in it was crafted by Edgar C. Rogan. Born in Lockhart in 1883, he made this as a gift for Oran Coker in the early 1900's.

They seated us in our own private room. Giovanni himself was there. He took our orders, cooked and served. It literally was the best Italian food we had ever had. Laurie

Laurie and Ron, Al and June, Felix, Rebecca and Max in front of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (movie). This is the Kuempel Home of German Craftsman George Kuempel (1840-1920). He arrived in Travis County in the late 1860's and became a prominent area home builder. He bought his farm in 1877. Kuempel replaced the first home he built here for his family in 1879 with this Queen Anne style house in 1904. The one-and-one-half-story rambling wood structure features shingled gables, a corner turret, decorative bargeboards, and fine milled detailing. It was recently remodeled.

No sleeping after sunrise

Ron, Laurie, June, Felix, Al, Diane and Dub walk through the house. Glenn grew up with, went to school with, and knew just about everyone there. Once we finished with the photo shoots, we went to the DQ a few miles down the road.
