35th Annual Texas Tour Car Games

Schedule - Parade - Car Games - Raffle - Rally - Statistics - Registration Form

We had three car games: Thread the Needle, Pop the Balloon, and Pump it Up!

Thread the Needle - A small wire pointer was placed on the front bumper of the car sticking forward where the driver could not see it. Two wooden "Needles" were placed on the course, one to the right and one to the left.  The object was to thread the needles following the directions of the co-pilot who was "safely" standing five feet beyond the needle. Once one needle was threaded, the driver was to back up over the starting line then head for the other needle. This was a timed event. Timing started when the car started forward and stopped when the second needle was threaded. A 15 second penalty was added for things like knocking over a needle, failing to thread either needle, the co-pilot touching the needle, breaking or running over a needle, or bad mouthing any judge. For those who said it was impossible, the best time was less than 40 seconds!

Pop the Balloon - This was also a timed event. A balloon was given to the people in the car, someone was to blow it up and tie it off with ribbons attached to several washers. The balloon was then tossed out the window and the object was to drive over the balloon and pop it. The clock started when the balloon was handed over and stopped when the balloon was popped. Some wind and not being able to see the balloon added to the difficulty.

Pump it Up - This game consisted of the driver getting out of the car, running around to the passenger's side, opening that door to let him or her out. The passenger then had to run over to a tire pump and pump like crazy. They were pumping air into a plastic soda bottle nestled in a cannon-like tube. When it blasted off, the passenger was to run back to the car and get in. Then the driver had to shut that door, run to the driver's side, get in and shut the door. Timing started and stopped at the driver's door. The best time was just under 30 seconds!

Weather - We had some weather blow in that brought some much needed rain and cooled everything off a little. While many people drove their cars back to their hotels when the rain storm hit, all of the dedicated Car Games Judges stuck it out - and got plenty wet - and had lots of fun.

Notes to Remember - Chalk lines that designate boundaries and starting lines disappear in a rain storm. Go figure.
